Kenya: Chef Maliha attempts world record again for home cooking
A Kenyan chef is attempting to break the world record for continuous cooking for the third time.
Maliha Mohammed is attempting to break the 90-hour home cooking record this time, and she has been live-streaming the challenge on her TikTok page.
According to Guinness World Records, Ms. Mohammed had already been cooking for longer than the previous record of 68 hours, 30 minutes, and one second, set in 2018 by American Rickey Lumpkin II. This occurred at 0900 (0600 GMT) on Monday, Kenyan time.
She claims that the record she is attempting to break is distinct from the one that was set earlier this year by Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.
“I will be cooking nonstop for the longest home kitchen cooking marathon. That is a different title from what Chef Hilda was cooking,” she noted on her Youtube page.
Mohamed stated that she submitted an application for her attempt in December 2022 in response to accusations that she was copying Ms. Baci.
To set a new Guinness record, a person must submit an application and receive the organization’s approval.
In 2018, Ms. Mohammed attempted to break the record for the longest cooking marathon with a 72-hour effort.
A 75-hour cooking marathon was completed by her in 2019. Guinness awarded the title to Lata London, an Indian chef, who held the record for the longest cooking marathon that year with a time of 87 hours and 45 minutes.
In her most recent challenge, Ms. Mohammed is preparing 320 dishes, including ones from Kenya, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and other countries.
