Cecilia Dapaah addresses JoyNews regarding their coverage of alleged frozen account funds

Cecilia Dapaah

The legal representatives of Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, have formally communicated with the Multimedia Group.

They are requesting an unequivocal apology for disseminating “inaccurate claims” that asserted the discovery of $5 million and GH¢48 million in her Prudential Bank accounts.

Dapaah’s legal team highlighted that despite the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s (OSP) refutation of the said report, the Multimedia Group continued to circulate the alleged untruth on their various social media platforms.

On August 10, it was reported that during a search at Dapaah’s Abelemkpe residence, the OSP found a substantial sum of US$590,000 in cash, along with an astounding amount of GH¢2.7 million in cash. Seven accounts belonging to the former minister were subsequently frozen by the Special Prosecutor.

The legal letter to the Multimedia Group stated that, even after the OSP issued a correction, the media outlet continued publishing content related to the false claim, displaying a sense of ill intent.

In the letter, Cecilia Dapaah demands that the Multimedia Group retract the erroneous information and offer an apology within three days. Should they fail to do so, she indicates her intention to take legal action to address the harm caused by the inaccurate reporting.
