Residents Fix Deplorable Road Voluntarily At Butre
Residents of Butre in the Ahanta West Municipality of the Western Region have voluntarily fixed the bad road in their community.
Residents in the area have for some time bemoaned the sorry state of the roads, particularly the one that links Huntumano to Butre communities, and assert that they have called on the government to repair it but to no avail.
They expressed disappointment at authorities for neglecting them.
According to them, fixing the road was necessary because drivers, fishermen, and especially students were unable to access the road during rainy seasons.
To this end, the residents mobilized themselves and tried to fix the road with stones to help the situation.
They expressed their concern to Beach News.
“We went to the council to solicit help on Friday but they never showed up. Nobody has come to our aid; this is why we are here. We are not going to allow any politician to come here during elections. We are constructing the road ourselves.”
“Vehicles are unable to ply our roads. They are in a poor state. Most of the women here are into fishing but they are unable to transport the fish. We can’t do a lot of things here due to the nature of the road. So we will not allow any elections to take place here.”
