A well-known 21-year-old individual, presumed to be a popular traditional priest and taxi driver in Saltpond, has been discovered deceased.

The lifeless body of the young man, identified as Michael, was found near a garbage dump in the vicinity of Saltpond Anglican Basic School, situated within the Mfantsiman Municipality of the Central Region. Observers present at the scene alleged that the deceased had engaged in theft within the Saltpond area.

It is believed that the deceased’s involvement in theft may have incited people to resort to fatal violence against him.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder.

On the morning of Tuesday, August 1, 2023, the lifeless body of the individual was found with his legs bound by a rope and evidence of head injuries inflicted by a sharp object.

A witness shared an account indicating that the deceased had been engaging in theft within the community for a period of time.

At one juncture, he fled to Accra but later returned to continue his alleged criminal activities, which are suspected to have led to his tragic demise.

“We found out this morning that an individual has been killed around the Saltpond Anglican Basic School area. His stealing activities in the community where he stays got him a lot of enemies. He also practices as a fetish priest and did a lot of magic. At one point, he stole someone’s mobile phone and left for Accra. But he came back later to the area and went to Saltpond Zongo to steal.

“He was on the radar of the people of that area who threatened to kill him anytime they see him. We woke up in the morning to see his lifeless body close to the refuse dump. His head had been slashed with a sharp object, and other parts of his body were badly damaged. For now, we can’t tell if he really went to steal or not but he hasn’t got a good name in the community.”
