Professor Aziato Proposes Allowance For Caregivers And Parents Of Children With Special Needs

Vice Chancellor for the University of Health and Allied Science, Professor Lydia Aziato has requested the government to consider giving allowances to teachers and parents who cater for children with special needs.

Professor Aziato speaking at the maiden congregation of Holy Child College of Education in Takoradi said, some parents who have children with special needs, hardly, are gainfully employed, further implored the government to make provisions for those parents.

Acknowledging that caring for such children can be challenging for both teachers and parents, she said, it is important to ensure that they are provided with the needed education.

Professor Aziato said material resources such as specialized equipment should be provided to enhance effective teaching and learning.

“The resources available in the school should make it possible to teach a student who is blind or deaf. That is why I’m saying that part of the program should be for those people who come out of the school to know how to use the resources to teach the students in those categories,”

She however called on parents whose children have special needs to seek intervention.
