2,050 Households Benefit From LEAP In EKMA

The Effia Kwesiminstim Municipal Assembly, EKMA has revealed that a total of Two Thousand and Fifty households have benefitted from the government’s Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative.

It said Four Hundred and Fifty-five individuals have so far received payments, adding that a total amount of GH 35,198 Cedis was disbursed to the beneficiaries of the program.

He added that beneficiaries would have to visit the banks to receive payments.

Municipal Chief Executive of EKMA, KoJo Acqauh made this known whilst addressing the 2nd Ordinary Meeting at the 4th Session of the Assembly.

” It is refreshing to note in the second quarter of this year, the government of Ghana headed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo doubled the amount received periodically by beneficiaries enrolled under the LEAP program in the country. Also, the assembly will no longer make payments to beneficiaries in their respective communities as the new arrangement mandates that beneficiaries rather visit their banks to redraw payments,” The MCE said.

Agricultural Extension Agents in the various operational areas of the Municipality, he said, undertook a total of five hundred and thirty-one home and farm visits during the period under review.

This activity carried out by the Agricultural Extension Agents was to ensure good agricultural practices to help increase agricultural productivity in the Municipality.

“During these visits, our AEAs educated our local farmers on good agricultural practices that will help increase agricultural productivity in the Municipality. The Assembly through the Department of Agriculture organised a training workshop to equip prospective farmers with the needed skills and knowledge for catfish and backyard gardens. “Mr Acquah added.
