The High Court in Accra has scheduled October 19 as the date for delivering its ruling on the contempt case brought against KT Hammond, the Member of Parliament for Adansi Asokwa.
The contempt application was filed by Gyakye Quayson’s lawyers in response to comments made by the Trade and Industry Minister during a media interview, which were considered contemptuous.
KT Hammond allegedly compared Gyakye Quayson’s case to that of Adamu Sakande and implied that the Assin North MP would face a similar fate.
Gyakye Quayson was hoping to proceed with the case on a Friday, but it was adjourned. The court has instructed the parties involved to submit their written addresses by August 31. They will reconvene on October 19 for the final ruling.
KT Hammond, who was late for the hearing, was represented by his lawyer Kwaku Paintsil.
After the proceedings, Abraham Amaliba, the Head of NDC legal affairs representing Gyakye Quayson, spoke to the press. He explained that the contempt application was filed against KT Hammond due to his comments, which were believed to impact Gyakye Quayson’s trial.
On the other hand, KT Hammond, who later arrived at the court premises, stated that he believes he is being targeted by the complainants. He clarified that his absence during the initial call for the case was due to being misinformed about the time.
He asserted that he will always be a target, and the presiding judge will ultimately decide the matter.
