A/R: 14-year-old dead, two injured at a fire festival
A celebrant at a fire festival in Aboabo, in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, is alleged to have accidentally fired a stray bullet that killed a teenage boy.
Masawudu Abdul-Aziz, aged 14, was struck by a bullet during the festival’s musket firing, magical process demonstration, and fire lighting.
Additionally, two other people were hurt.
According to Masawudu’s family he was discovered lying in a pool of blood, after the ceremony.
The body was conveyed to the morgue when the police arrived on the scene.
A historical occasion on the Mole-Dagbon calendar is commemorated annually by the “Bugum” Fire Festival, among members of the Dagbon, Mamprugu, and Nanumba ethnic groups.
In the Ashanti region, migrants from the Northern regions frequently participate in the festival celebration.
