Chris Bart-Williams, the ex-midfielder of Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday, passes away at the age of 49
Former midfielder Chris Bart-Williams, known for his time at Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest, has tragically passed away at the age of 49, as announced by Sheffield Wednesday.
Bart-Williams, who later became a mentor and coach in the United States, lost his life in the US. This unfortunate news comes amid the mourning of former striker Trevor Francis, who also recently passed away at the age of 69.
Chris Bart-Williams was born in Sierra Leone and started his career as a trainee at Leyton Orient. He made over 150 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday and featured in the 1993 FA Cup final and replay, as well as reaching the League Cup final that same year.
In July 1995, he secured a £2.5m transfer to Nottingham Forest, where he helped the team win the First Division title in 1997/98. Despite primarily playing as a defensive midfielder, he was also the club’s top scorer and player of the year in the 2000/01 season.
After his playing career, Bart-Williams pursued coaching in the United States, initially working in women’s college football. He was the owner and chief executive of CBW Soccer Elite, a US College Soccer recruiting agency, and served as the head coach for Dade County’s football programs.
Former teammates and clubs alike expressed their shock and sadness over the untimely passing of both Chris Bart-Williams and Trevor Francis. His contribution to football and his coaching legacy will be remembered and cherished.
