NAFCO refutes reports of diverting monies meant for paying food suppliers
The National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), which was accused of diverting money intended for paying food suppliers, has refuted these allegations.
Some irate food suppliers claimed that the Buffer Stock Company had stolen funds from the Education Ministry to pay off their loans during their picketing a few weeks ago.
For the food that was provided to different senior high schools across the nation as part of the Free SHS policy, the suppliers were demanding payment of more than GH 270 million.
The CEO of NAFCO, Hanan Abdul-Wahab, responded to the accusations by stating that they are untrue because the business is dedicated to paying all of its debts to its creditors.
“Between 2021, 2022, and 2023, the entire Free SHS feeding budget is far more than even GH₵480 million, so it is clear that the figure is not correct. We have not received money from the Ministry that is meant to be paid to suppliers that we have not paid.
“The report is not true, and we are very focused on making sure that we will make life very comfortable for our suppliers.”
