Minister Touts Western Region’s Commitment To Harness Inclusive And Responsible Mining

The Western Regional Minister, Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah, says the Western Region and Ghana as a whole are known for their rich mineral resources.

These resources, the Minister believes hold great potential for sustainable mineral development, and the country should be committed to harnessing this potential responsibly and inclusively to create a desirable community.

He says it is important to acknowledge the interconnectedness between mining and other sectors of the economy.

” I have no doubts that we all recognize the significance of the mining sector in driving economic growth, creating employment opportunities, and contributing to our nation’s development.

The Western Region and Ghana, known for its rich mineral resources, hold great potential for sustainable mineral development, and we are committed to harnessing this potential responsibly and inclusively to create the desirable local communities we want.”

“The Ghana Mining Expo has long acknowledged the interconnectedness between mining and other sectors of our national economy and the importance of engaging various stakeholders, particularly community members.  Throughout the years, we have aimed to foster a mining sector that positively impacts our society, economy, and environment”, Mr. Darko-Mensah stated.

Mr Darko-Mensah, however, echoed that sustainable mineral development requires a holistic approach, which comprises responsible mining, environmental stewardship, and empowerment of mining communities.

“This forum has countlessly echoed over the years, sustainable mineral development requires a holistic approach, encompassing responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and the empowerment of mining communities.

It necessitates a strong partnership between government, industry, civil society, and local communities. Together, we can create a mining sector that generates wealth and fosters social inclusivity, environmental protection, sustainable livelihoods and local prosperity.”

“I am delighted by the active participation and dedication demonstrated by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Bank of Ghana, the Minerals Income Investment Fund, and other relevant institutions and stakeholders involved in the Ghana Gold Expo Foundation”, the Minister added.
