Apple tests AI Chatbots to rival OpenAI’s ChatGPT

Apple is developing artificial intelligence (AI) products that are comparable to Google’s Bard and OpenAI’s ChatGPT sending Apple’s stock to rise as much as 2% to a record high, Bloomberg has reported.

According to a report published on Wednesday that quoted sources with knowledge of the situation, the iPhone manufacturer has developed its own framework, known as Ajax, to develop large language models (LLMs), and it is also testing a chatbot that some engineers refer to as “Apple GPT.”

In stark contrast to other tech behemoths like Alphabet and Microsoft, who have taken bold steps to incorporate the game-changing technology, Apple has so far refrained from making any significant moves in AI and even avoided mentioning the buzzword at its developer conference in June.

Following the publication of the report, shares of Microsoft, Nvidia, and Alphabet all decreased by more than 1%.

However, Apple has subtly promoted advanced AI in a few of its products, including Apple Photos, on-device texting, and the just-released mixed-reality headset Vision Pro. Analysts claim that the business has not yet adopted the new technology as quickly as its competitors.

Siri, Apple’s primary AI product, has remained stagnated over the years.

According to the Bloomberg report, many teams were involved in the most recent AI initiative, which was overseen by Apple’s top software engineering executive, Craig Federighi, and John Giannandrea, the company’s head of machine learning and AI.

Apple is using its new virtual assistant internally for product prototyping. It summarizes text and responds to questions based on data it has been trained on. Employees claim that the tool, which operates as a web application, essentially replicates Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI.

According to the report, although Apple does not yet have a clear strategy for the tools it is creating, the company is aiming to make a significant announcement about artificial intelligence next year.
