Western Region: 62 people killed in road accidents in the first half of 2023
The National Road Safety Authority in its first half road traffic performance report of the Western Region, has revealed that 62 persons died and 380 injured in road traffic accidents in 2023.
According to the report signed by the Regional Head of NRSA, Nana Akua Ansaah, a “total number of 374 road traffic crashes were recorded from January to June 2023. These crashes involve 678 vehicles of all categories (Private, Commercial, Motorbike/Cycles, etc.) and 442 casualties (62 Fatalities/Deaths and 380 Injuries).”
According to the data, the region recorded an increase in cases reported, vehicles involved, persons killed, persons injured and slight decrease in persons knockdown in 2023, compared to the same period of 2022.
Providing further statistics on the fatalities, the National Road Safety Authority detailed that, the total number of Male was 55 (below 18 years -7 and above 18 years -48), whiles the total number of Female stood at 7 (below 18 years -4 and above 18 years -3).
The total number of persons injured saw an increment of 19.87% (380) in the first half of 2023 as compared to 317 in the first half of 2022.
Nationwide
The 16 regions recorded 6,904 cases of road traffic accidents in the first half of 2023. Out of this number, 1,086 fatalities were recorded, 7,807 people injured and total vehicles involved recorded at 11,763.
