W/R: Health Workers Honored For Combating COVID-19 Pandemic
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has recognized 200 frontline and allied health workers who braved the elements to deliver top-notch medical care during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 200 were among a group of 1,000 recipients who also received recognition in the Western Region’s several districts.
They received a certificate of appreciation from the President, which was part of the 2023 Presidential Awards for COVID-19 Frontline Workers.
The awards scheme forms part of an initiative by the President to appreciate all the front-line healthcare professionals who contributed significantly to restricting and halting the spread of COVID-19 throughout the nation.
Presenting the awards on behalf of the President, Western Regional Minister, mentioned that the COVID-19 with its ramifications, caused a paradigm shift in social, physical and financial dealings globally, with Ghana not being an exception.
He said that the region was responsible for 5% of all COVID-19 cases in the nation, but that the virus was effectively limited because to the selfless and devoted work of frontline healthcare personnel.
“We pride ourselves that 99.1 per cent of COVID-19 cases which were recorded in the Region recovered, which means that less that one per cent lost their lives through the virus… Indeed, this is a laudable achievement, and thanks to you, spirited individuals for this achievement.” He said.
