Gigi Hadid arrested over cannabis possession in Cayman Islands
It has been revealed that American model Gigi Hadid was detained and fined earlier this month in the Cayman Islands for possessing cannabis.
The 28-year-old and her friend were detained after their luggage was searched on July 10, as they arrived a private jet for a vacation.
They entered a guilty plea in court, paid a fine, but there was no formal conviction.
According to Hadid’s agent, the marijuana was bought legally in New York “with a medical license”.
“It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island,” they said in a statement.
Hadid and her friend Leah McCarthy were detained for “importing marijuana and utensils used for consuming marijuana,” according to Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control.
The agency added that it was a small amount and appeared to be for personal use.
According to the Cayman Marl Road, a local newspaper, they were taken to a detention facility and released on bail.
Two days later, the pair appeared in Cayman Islands summary court, where they were fined Cayman Islands dollars ($1,200; £920).
Despite this, the model seemed to be enjoying her holiday.
On Tuesday, she posted pictures of her beach vacation to Instagram and captioned them, “All’s well that ends well.”
