EKMA: 7th COVID-19 vaccination exercise takes off

The Effia-Kwesimintsim Health Directorate is encouraging constituents in the Municipality to fully partake in the National Immunisation exercise which starts today, Wednesday, July 19 and ends on Sunday, July 23 2023.

According to the Municipal Health Director, Madam Joyce Bagina the directorate has not achieved its target hence there is a need to continue immunising the populace to achieve their target.

Sharing statistics with journalists in Takoradi, she indicated that some people are, however hesitant in taking the vaccine.

“From our statistics, a lot of people have not even taken the first dose. Of those who have taken the first dose 7,025 represent 73.2 per cent of eligible people who are supposed to take the vaccine, which means that out of every 100 we have up to a quarter that have not taken the vaccine yet not to talk about the first dose.

We need 25 per cent to take the vaccination in this round.

With the second dose, we have only about 4,961 giving us coverage of 43.70 which means 50 per cent of people have not taken it,” She said.

According to the Service, 10 million people out of the more than 30 million persons in the country have fully received the vaccines, with the rest yet to either vaccinate or undergo complete vaccination.

The aim of the vaccination is to immunize about 5,000 people located in churches, schools, mosques and homes.

Persons 18 years and above (non-pregnant) will be vaccinated.

“We are encouraging every adult in our Municipality to get vaccinated. We will come to churches, house to house, churches and workplaces,” She added.

She also said first-timers can take the vaccine as well as those who have not received their second or booster dose.
