Minority boycott parliament for the 4th time in support of Gyakye Quayson

MPs

Once again, Members of Parliament (MPs) from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have boycotted a parliamentary sitting to attend the trial of their colleague, James Gyakye Quayson.

This marks the fourth consecutive time that the Minority caucus has taken such action. Even after the bell in Parliament was rung to call the session to order on Tuesday, the attendance of legislators on the floor, particularly on the Majority side, remained notably low. Only 13 members of the New Patriotic Party were present when the sitting commenced.

In light of this, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the MP for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, requested that the Speaker consider questions posed by NDC MPs as asked and answered since they were absent.

Annoh-Dompreh stated, “Except for question 1405, which is advertised in the name of the Honourable Vincent Ekow Assafuah, member for Old Tafo, all the other questions are advertised in various names of our colleagues in the minority and they have elected not to be present. Mr Speaker, the parliament of this republic cannot wait for them. Hence, as it is often the practice, I want to appeal to you that the answers to these questions be published, except for question 1405…”

While the Speaker acknowledged Annoh-Dompreh’s appeal, he suggested going through the questions one by one, noting the absence of the MPs who posed them.

Additionally, JoyNews has confirmed that the Minority MPs are indeed in court attending James Gyakye Quayson’s trial.
