Ashanti region: Two injured in clash between land guards, wood workers at Akwatialine

Two people have been hurt as a result of a fight between wood vendors and purported guards in Akwatialine in Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The Asokore Mampong Municipality’s officials have emphasized recently how important it is to relocate the hundreds of wood vendors from Akwatialine in order to facilitate the area’s redevelopment.

During a confrontation with security personnel in April 2023 over their refusal to leave the workspace, some woodworkers suffered injuries.

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Chief Executive, Kennedy Kankam, previously told Citi News that after the newly built stores are finished, the woodworkers will be able to work there.

Construction for the redevelopment project has already begun, despite the fact that some woodworkers are still opposed to moving as part of the plans, and the dispute is currently in court.

Some woodworkers allegedly fought with the land guards, who were allegedly employed by the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly, on Tuesday as the contractors were extending construction work to their neighborhood.

The participants in this altercation suffered injuries as a result of this.

The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly’s President, Mathew Amissah, promised to make efforts to resolve the ongoing dispute between the wood vendors and the relevant authorities.
