CorpNation launches ‘4R+’ waste management initiative at Takoradi New Market

A not-for-profit sustainable development organization, CorpNation Foundation, has launched a waste management project christened “4R+ initiative” at Takoradi new market in the Western region.

Speaking to Beach newsroom at the launch on Friday, July 14, 2023, the Founder of CorpNation Foundation, Saviour Kwaku Adzika (Sayvee), said his outfit chose the market because of some concerns raised by some of the market women and the need to manage waste.

“The market women have concerns about the cost of disposing their watse…it is a sad situation. Per the statistics and our research we have come to the realization that if there’s an outbreak here, a lot of homes can easily be affected because they patronize from the market. For these reasons and more we find it pertinent to educate the market women on waste management and expose them to its benefits. The benefit of making some money from selling the waste they generate. CorpNation is happy to launch this initiative here.”

Head of Environmental Health at the Takoradi Sub-Metro, Eugenia Vukeh said, “it is a good initiative by CorpNation because of the damaging effects of plastic waste in our environment. We decided to partner with them because we still need help in managing our waste in the metropolis especially plastic waste.”

The CEO of Kent Investment and President of Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs, Richard Addison, stated that, “it is a laudable idea and I think we should support CorpNation on their drive for the segregation of waste and maybe branch out into our communities because this is something for the future. I strongly believe that this project is a step in the right direction and an avenue to make money.”

The project lead for the 4R+ waste management initiative, Barnabas Mensah told Beach newsroom that CorpNation Foundation chose the new Takoradi Market based on a research advice from the Takoradi Technical University.

“They [Takoradi Technical University] researched and advised that we come here. This is one of the biggest markets in the southern part of the region. So if we are able to start here and successfully implement it, there will be a greater possibility of it easily having an impact on the small markets.”

He further entreated all and sundry to abide by the proper waste management protocols in the markets and even at home.

“We are entreating everybody to get involved in disposing off waste properly and also follow the waste disposal protocols properly, especially in the markets when they visit.”
