Akufo-Addo approves reviewed salaries for JUSAG

JUSAG

The approval of the reviewed salaries and allowances for members of the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been warmly received by the association.

JUSAG members had been demonstrating against what they perceived as the government’s lack of interest in approving the agreed-upon terms, which ultimately led to an indefinite strike starting on May 24, 2023.

The association had submitted proposals to the government regarding the implementation of the approved cost of living allowance for its members. However, the government did not promptly address these proposals. Subsequently, JUSAG appealed to the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkonoo, for intervention.

According to JUSAG, their engagement with the Chief Justice produced positive outcomes, with confirmation that the president had approved the reviewed salaries and allowances for members. In a statement, the association acknowledged the challenges faced during the process and engagement with the Chief Justice, but expressed gratitude for her remarkable leadership and the support of other stakeholders, which led to the conclusion of the engagement on June 15, 2023. It was agreed that the implementation of the reviewed salaries would take effect in July 2023.

The association further emphasized its reassurance by highlighting a letter from the Chief Justice dated July 13, 2023, which confirmed the President’s approval of the new salary structure. They noted that implementation would proceed in July 2023, as indicated by the Ministry of Finance at the close of the engagement.

In summary, JUSAG is pleased with President Akufo-Addo’s approval of the reviewed salaries and allowances, expressing gratitude to the Chief Justice and other stakeholders for their efforts in reaching a resolution. They anticipate the implementation of the new salary structure in July 2023.
