‘Ghana and the world will miss you’ – Akufo-Addo eulogises late poet, Ama Ata Aidoo
President Akufo-Addo has expressed deep sorrow as he mourned the passing of renowned Ghanaian author Ama Ata Aidoo at her memorial service.
The memorial service provided a venue to recognize Madam Aidoo’s outstanding contributions to the field of literature and was attended by important figures from the literary and cultural words.
President Akufo-Addo paid a moving tribute to the late playwright at her funeral service held on the State House forecourt in Accra.
He praised the late poet for her unmatched talent and called her a literary icon whose words had touched readers all over the world.
He claimed that her ground-breaking works demonstrated her talent for crafting engrossing tales that probed challenging social issues.
The President emphasized that Madam Aidoo’s literary talent went beyond the pages of her books because she used her voice and pen to advocate for social justice, women’s empowerment, and African identity.
The late Author was also honored by President Akufo-Addo for her significant contribution to the advancement of Ghana and the African continent.
The renowned academic and feminist passed away on May 31 at the age of 81 after a brief illness.
The President continued by thanking Madam Aidoo for her commitment to developing young talent and praising their friendship over the years.
Ama Ata Aidoo will be missed by Ghanaians and people around the world, he said.
