Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited in Tema is expected to start operations by the end of August 2023.
The 1.9 billion dollar facility which would refine 40,000 barrels of crude per day is under the government’s One District, One Factory initiative.
Trade and Industry Minister, K.T Hammond paid a working visit to the refinery to access the progress of work.
Chairman of Sentuo Group Xu Ningquan requested 500,000 barrels of crude from Ghana Oilfield to be the first crude oil to be refined at the facility for symbolic meaning.
Mr K.T. Hammond while responding to the Chairman said his outfit will look into the requests and address the. including other issues bothering operations.
With the coming of the Sentuo Oil Refinery and the full operationalization of the Tema Oil Refinery producing at full capacity, it is expected to increase local production to 80 per cent.
The facility can refine 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day and One to Two million metric tonnes annually.
The construction works on the refinery are complete and managers are waiting for the necessary refinery license from the National Petroleum Authority to formally start operations.
It will produce petroleum products such as gasoline, jet fuel, LPG, Sulphuric, diesel fuel oil ammonia amongst others.
Mr. Hammond was impressed with the work done so far, and said, “The facility will refine enough products to meet the entire need of the country. That may be something to cheer about.”
He said, ‘ The money which goes into the importation of products into the country is phenomenal and if somehow we are going to have this sort of facility which will produce all that we require in this country, we should be singing praises of the company.”
