Bagbin urges Ofori-Atta to present mid-year budget review before July 27
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has requested that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, consider presenting the Mid-year budget review before July 27, 2023. This is due to the Parliament’s intention to adjourn sine die on August 3, 2023.
Initially, the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, had announced that the mid-year budget presentation was scheduled for July 27, with the House expected to adjourn on August 9, 2023.
However, Speaker Alban Bagbin has emphasized that the House cannot extend its sitting beyond August 3 due to other urgent commitments. These commitments include both international and domestic obligations that the House cannot disregard.
As a result, the Speaker has notified the Finance Minister that it is necessary to submit the mid-year Budget and Supplementary Budget Review earlier than originally anticipated. This is to allow sufficient time for the House to review and approve it before August 10.
The maximum date for the Parliament to convene and conduct sessions would be August 3, as any further extension would interfere with the Parliament’s participation in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association program.
