The Office of the Registrar of Companies, ORC has extended the deadline for the filing of annual returns and renewals to September 30, 2023.
In a statement, the ORC says the extension will enable companies and businesses in default to complete the processes for the filing of the annual returns and renewals which they could not complete due to the down times experienced by the offices’ software application system throughout the period.
The statement signed by the Registrar of Companies, Mrs. Jemima Oware says the deadline applies to business names, companies limited by shares, companies limited by guarantee that it is churches, schools, non-governmental organizations, and civil society organizations.
The rest are Foundations, Unions, Associations, Societies, External Companies, Partnerships, and Professional Bodies.
The statement notes that as of June 30, 2023, Companies and businesses registered by the ORC since 2011 and those that have filed their annual returns and renewals and are in good standing were not encouraging.
Out of the 2 Hundred and Twenty Thousand, 2 Hundred and 14 companies limited by shares registered, only 46 Thousand 7 Hundred and 4 were in good standing, and only 19 Thousand 74 companies limited by guarantee were in good standing within the period under review.
On external companies, a total of 4 Hundred and 38 are in good standing. Out of the 1 Thousand 3Hundred and 79 registered with 7 Hundred and 52 partnerships in good standing and 2 Hundred and 35 Thousand 4 hundred and 81 out of 7Hundred and 21 Thousand 8 hundred and 17 sole proprietorships in good standing.
The ORC says it will commence the process of striking off businesses and companies in default from the register by the end of September 2023.
