Board and management of Asante Kotoko to be dissolved
Asante Kotoko is reported to make some drastic changes in response to a disappointing season in which they were trophy-less.
According to sources, Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II, the club owner, has mandated the dissolution of the board and management.
Nana Yaw Amponsah was named the head of the management team by the board, which was founded in 2020 and is chaired by Dr. Kwame Kyei, in August of that same year.
The two managements’ initial cooperation was fruitful, and in their second season, the club won the Ghana Premier League.
The management and the board, however, appear to be at odds with one another.
The promotion of his own team, Nations FC, to the Ghana Premier League last season has reportedly drawn Dr. Kwame Kyei’s attention away from Asante Kotoko.
Nana Yaw Amponsah addressed the problems with the club’s leadership in June.
In his own words, “As I sit,” Dr. Kwame Kyei is not a problem for him.
“I always treat him with the utmost respect, but as his board chairman and CEO, our communication isn’t as good as it used to be.”
Asantehene Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II is rumored to have decided to dissolve the board and management team as a result of the club’s trophyless season and the discord within the leadership of the organization.
The decision to make this change denotes the need for a new beginning and a reconsideration of the club’s future course.
Kotoko, a team renowned for its illustrious past and ardent fan base, would have to regroup and start over under new management.
