A tragic incident has occurred in Kwarfokurom, Ayensuano District, Eastern Region, where a 24-year-old motorcycle rider was allegedly murdered by the passengers he picked up at night. The victim’s body was discovered by residents, lying in a pool of blood late at night.
The deceased had been working as a motorcycle (okada) rider to support his widowed mother and siblings after completing Senior High School. The victim’s mother, in tears, recounted the heartbreaking incident, expressing her disbelief and sorrow over her son’s death. She is now left without any support, having been the sole caregiver for her children since their father passed away.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has initiated investigations into the matter. The use of motorcycles for transportation is common in the Ayensuano district and surrounding areas due to the poor condition of some roads. However, this incident highlights the need for improved security in the area, as there have been reports of attacks on motorcycle riders.
Samuel Ayepaye, a former Member of Parliament and a member of the Transport Committee, called for enhanced security measures in the region and neighboring districts in response to the recent attacks on motorcycle riders. While the use of motorcycles for transport is still considered illegal, it has become a source of livelihood for many young individuals.
Ayepaye urged the residents of Kwarfokurom to remain calm and called on the police to apprehend the culprits. He also mentioned the need for a thorough investigation to determine whether the incident was a criminal act or related to rituals, as there were suspicious elements at the crime scene, including a basin with water nearby. The police have taken note of all the evidence present and are conducting further examinations, including a post-mortem to determine the cause of death and the weapon used.
