Stephen Appiah – Late Sam Arday prophesied I will be one of the greatest footballers in Ghana
Stephen Appiah, former captain of the Ghana national football team, the Black Stars, has revealed that the late Sam Arday, coach of the Black Starlets, prophesied that he would become one of the best players in Ghana. Appiah shared this during an interview on JoySports Prime Take with Muftawu Nabila Abdulai.
Stephen Appiah recounted his experience during the 1995 U-17 World Cup in Ecuador, where he only played one game. Despite limited playing time, Arday, who could foresee Appiah’s potential, predicted that he would have a successful football career. Appiah acknowledged that there were more experienced players on the team who were ahead of him, but he got the chance to play in the last game of the tournament, which they won 1-0.
Upon their return to Ghana, the team celebrated their victory, and during a speech at the Accra sports stadium, Sam Arday expressed gratitude to the fans and everyone who supported them. Arday specifically mentioned that there was a young player in the team who didn’t get many opportunities to play but would eventually become one of the best in the country. Appiah stated that Arday recognized his potential and believed in his abilities. Arday had a knack for identifying talented players and making accurate predictions about their future success.
Stephen Appiah went on to lead the Black Stars to their first-ever appearance in the FIFA World Cup in 2006 and repeated the feat in 2010 when the tournament was hosted in Africa, with Ghana reaching the quarterfinals.
