Payment Of LEAP To Beneficiaries Commences
Payment of grants to Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) beneficiaries has been started by the Government of Ghana through the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection.
The goal of LEAP, a social cash transfer program for Ghana’s poorest households, is to reduce poverty by promoting the growth of human capital and regulating consumption.
Due to the dual cycles, all eligible households will receive twice the regular bimonthly cash support.
350,000 beneficiary Households will participate in the exercise, which began on June 26th, 2023.
A statement released by the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection indicated that the government has released funds for disbursement to commence.
“Government of Ghana has released GH₵109, 031, 160.00 for the payment of cash grant to about 350,000 households for the 83rd and 84th cycles,” the Gender Ministry said in a statement.
The MoGCSP has organized teams and given them the task of gathering information on various indicators to track Program performances in order to carry out the monitoring exercise.
It would also enable the Ministry to monitor payments and engage with recipients to assess how the initiative has affected their lives.
The number of eligible people in a family determines how much is paid to that household. Orphans and vulnerable children, adults 65 and older who are unsupported, people with severe disabilities who are unable to work, pregnant women, and moms of children under one-year-old fall under the category of people who qualify for a household.
