During the ongoing by-election in Assin Breku, an individual impersonating a military personnel was arrested at a polling station. The young man, fully dressed in military attire, was apprehended by the police on Tuesday.
Although there were earlier rumors about his presence in a house, the police initially took no immediate action.
However, he was eventually arrested when he entered the area during the visit of NDC candidate James Gyakye Quayson to cast his vote.
The police swiftly took action, and officers promptly detained the imposter, transporting him in a pick-up truck for further investigations.
As of now, the police authorities have not issued any official statement concerning the incident. Additionally, several others were also arrested for wearing party-related symbols within the polling station.
Since the beginning of the election earlier that morning, there has been a heightened police presence at the polling stations. This week, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare visited the area and held a meeting with party leaders.
During the meeting, all political parties made a commitment to ensure a peaceful election and refrain from engaging in any illegal activities.
Furthermore, the IGP emphasized the importance of impartiality, neutrality, and transparency in the electoral process.
His visit aimed to foster an environment of fairness and adherence to the rule of law throughout the election.
