2023 U-23 AFCON: We know what is at stake against Morocco – Danlad Ibrahim
Ahead of their second group game at the ongoing U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Black Meteors goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim expressed confidence in his team’s preparedness to face Morocco, recognizing the significance of securing a victory.
Following their triumph in the first game, Ghana will confront the host nation on Tuesday, June 27. A win in this very crucial match would secure their qualification to the next stage of the competition, while dropping points would require them to await their last game to determine their actual fate.
In a media interaction on Monday afternoon, Danlad Ibrahim discussed the upcoming challenge, emphasizing the team’s awareness of what is at stake.
“We are fully aware of the importance of tomorrow’s match. A victory will guarantee our progression to the next stage of the competition,” Danlad Ibrahim stated.
Drawing from the lessons learned in their previous game, Danlad highlighted the team’s determination to rectify their mistakes, maintaining a concentrated effort for the entire 90 minutes with the belief that it will lead to victory.
Reflecting on the near-collapse of their 3-0 lead against Congo in the second half, with two goals conceded in added time, Danlad attributed the lapse to the team’s relative lack of experience.
“After the game against Congo, the players were understandably disappointed with what transpired. Many of us have not encountered this level of experience before. I am familiar with the consequences that can arise when concentration is lost during a match,” he added.
Danlad expressed confidence in the technical team’s ability to rally the players and formulate a strategy for the upcoming game, aiming to prevent a repeat of previous errors.
Currently occupying the top spot in Group A following their opening victory, the Black Meteors will kick off against Morocco at 20:00 GMT.
