NPP: Dr Bawumia files his nomination at party headquarters

At the party headquarters in Asylum Down, hundreds of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s supporters have gathered as he gets ready to file his presidential nomination forms. He is a flagbearer candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Important party figures including former National Organiser Sammy Awuku and Vice Chairman Fred Oware gathered the forms early last month on Dr. Bawumia’s behalf.

One of the leading candidates, Alan Kyerematen, submitted his forms on Monday.

Dr. Bawumia has held extensive conversations over the past few months regarding his desire to run for the NPP’s flagbearer position.

In order to make his ambitions to lead the NPP known, Dr Bawumia met with members of the Parliamentary Majority Caucus, the Party’s Council of Elders, and several traditional and religious figures.

On May 26, 2023, the NPP leadership began accepting nominations for the presidential primaries. The nomination period would end on June 24, 2023.

Ten candidates have currently taken up nomination forms to run for the NPP’s flagbearer position, including Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Kennedy Agyapong, Joe Ghartey, and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong.

On August 26, 2023, the NPP intends to conduct a Special Delegates Congress to choose the top five candidates for the presidency.

The contest between these top five contenders to become the party’s flagbearer and represent the party in the general elections of 2024 will take place on December 4, 2023.
