Manufacturing will continue to be the main source of employment in Ghana, the Minister of Trade and Industry has said.
During his remarks in response to inquiries on the House floor, Mr Hammond brings up this. According to him, the government’s job drive is led by manufacturing as part of a 10-point strategy that includes initiatives like the strategic industries initiative, industrial parks, and special economic zones.
Mr Hammond said the government under the One District, One Factory initiative is supporting the private sector to produce more baby foods in the country to reduce its import bill on the commodity.
“Government is making conscious and ongoing efforts to implement a well-laid-out plan to make manufacturing the major source of employment in Ghana.
Since the inception of the NPP administration, the government has put in place a comprehensive framework for industrial transformation known as the 10-point plan which is aim at making Ghana the manufacturing hub of Africa.
The input bill for preparation for infant foods which was approximately 25 million dollars in 2021 reduced to 20 million dollars in 2022.
Government will continue to assist the growth of the food sector through targeted interventions, especially for companies specializing in the manufacture of food preparations for infant foods.
This will further reduce the import of billion of infant foods,” The Trade Minister said.
