The Government Statistician at the Ghana Statistical Service, GSS, Professor Samuel Kwabena Annim, says inflation for May is up by 42. 2 per cent.
Inflation moved from 41. 2 per cent in April to 42. 2 per cent.
Announcing this at a press briefing at the Kumasi Technical University, Professor Kwabena Annim, attributed the main drivers of the inflation to food and non-alcoholic beverages constituting 52.4 per cent.
Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and other fuel products contributed 13.1 per cent and transport contributed 9.2 per cent.
He says locally-produced items recorded 32. 4 per cent whilst imported items recorded 43.8 per cent.
At the regional level, Professor Annim reveals that Western North recorded the highest food inflation from September 2022 to May 2023 whilst the Ashanti region recorded the lowest of 31 per cent with Western North recording 62.2 per cent.
