NCCE Urges Ghanaians To Exhibit Patriotism

The National Commission on Civic Education, NCCE, has expressed concern about the increasing disregard for patriotic values among Ghanaians.

In a statement, the NCCE said the trend is negatively affecting the Ghanaian identity.

Another concern raised is the lack of respect for national symbols.

The statement urged Ghanaians to respect national symbols to promote the good name of Ghana wherever they find themselves.

It said Article 41a of the 1992 Constitution makes this a constitutional obligation. The statement also reminded citizens that national symbols such as the National Anthem, National Flag, Coat of Arms, the Ghana currency, and the Maze of Parliament are state identities that must be respected.

It said the words in the National Pledge and National Anthem are sacred and must be recited with much commitment. The NCCE reminded citizens that the sound of the national anthem and the pledge is the civic duty of every Ghanaian to stand as a sign of respect to the State.

The NCCE, therefore, calls on stakeholders to come together to deliberate about nurturing good citizens with patriotic values.
