A man in his early 30s has been apprehended by the Mpohor District Police Command for brutally killing his wife following a threat of divorce. The tragic incident took place in Wiredukrom, a community near Wassa Manso in the Mpohor District of the Western Region.
The suspect, identified as Atta Sani, allegedly committed the crime shortly after an argument with his wife. According to a family member who shared details with Connect FM’s Omanbapa morning show, the deceased, Maame Ama, 25, had left her marital home due to ongoing abuse by her husband.
The family member, Kwaku Adams, explained that the victim had been staying with another person in the community for several days, seeking solace from the abusive situation. She had expressed her desire to leave the marriage, and plans were being made to support her decision. However, tragedy struck when her husband approached her under the pretense of discussing an important matter and carried out the heinous act.
Adams revealed that his sister innocently followed her husband, accompanied by their two-year-old child, to their room, believing they would engage in a meaningful conversation. However, the situation quickly escalated, and neighbors reported hearing quarrels before discovering the lifeless body of the victim. Shockingly, the suspect fled the scene, leaving their young child beside the lifeless body of the mother.
The deceased has been taken to the morgue, while the police are currently conducting investigations with the assistance of the suspect, who is now in custody. The couple has three children, aged two, six, and eight years old, respectively.
This distressing incident highlights the urgency of addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety of individuals facing abusive relationships.
