The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) warns that businesses entities and professional bodies may have their information removed from the National Register if they do not update their records.
This requirement has emerged due to the separation of the ORC from the Registrar General’s Department.
Jemima Maama Oware, the Registrar of Companies has therefore urged businesses to make sure to comply with the directive.
She highlighted that the Office has observed instances where professional bodies have changed their names without notifying them. Furthermore, there are cases of unregistered operations and instances where certain bodies registered as professional entities in 1973 have progressed to become chartered institutes. Despite these developments, these entities still remain listed in the register as professional bodies. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to carry out the necessary updates in order to rectify these anomalies and ensure accuracy.
“They have up to December 31, 2023 to renew and update their records if you don’t the opportunity to update after that period it means you are no more a professional body and we will take your name out of register,” she noted.
The Office of the Registrar of Companies (ORC) was launched by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in 2022 to take charge of the administration of the registration of companies and businesses in the country.
Operating as an autonomous body, the ORC handles the registration of businesses such as private public companies limited and unlimited by shares, private public companies limited by guarantee, including churches, schools, NGOs, CSOs, associations, unions, external companies and professional bodies.
