Traders At Sekondi Market Calls On City Authorities To Fix Ripped Ceiling
Traders at the Sekondi Market within the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly are calling on city authorities to fix the dilapidated ceiling of a building situated in the market.
According to the traders, the roof got ripped off during a heavy downpour accompanied by thunderstorms.
Most traders say thieves use the ripped ceiling as an avenue to carry out their robbery activities such as stealing the fish stored in the refrigerators kept in the building. This situation, the traders mentioned is making trading unbearable for them.
They say, even though a formal complaint has been made to the Assembly nothing has been done about the situation.
Narrating their ordeal to Beach Newsroom, the traders disclosed that they (traders) have tried several times to fix it but it turns out unsuccessful.
” The Assembly is always collecting levies from us yet, they don’t fix our problems. This is not the first time, the roof has been ripped. Whenever it comes off, we repair it ourselves. Now, we have to sit in the rain or under the scorching sun to sell our wares. For the past two weeks, the situation has been like this.
We don’t know who the thieves are. We come to the market every day to witness some theft. We are waiting for the Assembly to come and repair it,”
We were told the building is going to be demolished, thus we thought nothing could be done about it. Our concern is the refrigerators we store our fish in. There’s also a meter there too.
Carpenters have been employed to help in solving this problem but they disappoint us.
The business has been slow but thieves too are stealing fish. They use the ceiling as their entry point.
