MPs propose legislation to regulate Artificial Intelligence in Ghana
Some Members of Parliament (MP), have expressed their worries and demanded the establishment of laws to control the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country.
AI tools are software programs that use artificial intelligence-based algorithms to do specific jobs and handle different problems.
Numerous industries, including healthcare, banking, marketing, and education, use these AI solutions. They facilitate activities including task automation, data analysis, and improved decision-making.
On Wednesday, numerous MPs raised the significant advantages that AI technologies offer while also highlighting the need for regulation to make sure that they are utilized in a way that is in line with the right goals.
“If we do not act now the future will be bleak for our country. Probably Mr. Speaker, we should consider establishing an artificial intelligence council,” MP for Tamale South Haruna Iddrisu said.
MP for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah added that “those who worked on AI are beginning to worry about the potential and so it is opportune time for us to consider what kind of architecture, legal or regulatory to limit the most dangerous parts of AI.”
