Green Ghana Day: Deputy Minister For Lands and Natural Resources Seedlings

The Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Benito Owusu-Bio, who is in charge of Lands and Forestry, paid a working visit to the Forestry Commission headquarters on Monday, June 5, 2023, to check various seedling varieties as part of the preparations for the 2023 Green Ghana Day.

Additionally, the Forestry Commission has seedlings of coconut and palm trees in stock that will be distributed on Friday, June 9, 2023. The Forest Services Division’s offices in the Region and District will also sell some of these seedlings.

The 2023 Green Ghana Day was officially launched in Kumasi by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who also called on all Ghanaians and residents to participate in the nationwide tree-planting initiative. The 2023 Green Ghana Day is scheduled for June 9, 2023.

The opportunity to display patriotism, showcase our dedication to safeguarding our forest resources, and show our determination to leave our children with a more prosperous and greener Ghana, according to him, is presented by the Green Ghana Day.

Asantehene praised the government for launching the Green Ghana Project. He emphasized the value of trees for preserving the ecosystem, reducing climate change, and maintaining the planet’s survival.

The Ashanti Region’s Lake Bosomtwe will be protected by the planting of almost 2.5 million trees, he claimed, due to these advantages.

The government initially instituted the Green Ghana Day in 2021, with the support of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, as part of a vigorous reforestation and afforestation program to replace the nation’s lost forest cover.

Although the original edition had a five million tree planting goal, more than seven million trees were actually planted. The goal of twenty million (20,000,000) trees was surpassed last year with the planting of nearly twenty-six million (26,000,000) trees.
