The mid-year budget will likely include a request from the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to the government to reconsider three tax revenue measures and the Covid-19 Levy.
The union claims that because of the expensive taxes and utilities that businesses must pay, they are having trouble surviving.
It asserts that because the IMF opposes stunting the expansion of the private sector, it will step its efforts to have taxes revised in the mid-year budget.
Dr. Joseph Obeng, president of GUTA, said in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM that the union will discuss with the government the possibility of revising some levies in the mid-year budget to help businesses through these hard times.
“Now that the IMF deal has gone through, we will still pursue government and dialog so that at least in the mid-year budget, we can make some revision so that businesses can have some respite”.
He continued by saying that since the present IMF agreement creates a favorable climate for talks, GUTA would seize the chance to advocate for some evaluations to be conducted before the mid-year budget is read.
