EOCO nabs 49 Nigerians in Accra for human trafficking, cyber fraud
A human trafficking organization has been busted in Accra by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), and the Ghana Police Service.
An intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of 49 Nigerian nationals allowed for the capture of the human trafficking organization.
In a statement, EOCO said that the suspects, consisting 47 men and 2 women, all between the ages of 18 and 34, had been apprehended in Accra.
The people that were taken into custody are allegedly involved in cybercrime and human trafficking.
70 laptop computers, 2 saloon cars, 51 mobile phones, 9 internet modems, and other items were reportedly found and taken from the syndicate’s lair, according to EOCO.
Upon further investigation and screening of the suspects, it was revealed that forty-five of them were victims of human trafficking, while the remaining four were identified as traffickers.
The rescued victims have been repatriated to Nigeria, where they will be reunited with their families.
The four alleged traffickers, namely Godstine Omoruyi, Junior Nosa Omoruyi, Marvelous Omoruyi, and Evbuomwan Idowu have been presented before the court to face legal proceedings.
