Defence Minister holds Akufo-Addo administration responsible for grounded Presidential Jet

Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah has stated that Ghana’s presidential jet is currently out of service and undergoing repairs abroad, attributing its condition to neglect by the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
His comments follow allegations from members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang used a chartered flight to return from the UK on Thursday, May 22, after receiving medical treatment.
Old Tafo MP Vincent Ekow Assafuah claimed the Vice President flew on a private VistaJet at a cost of over GHS 2 million to the state, and shared what he said were her flight details on Facebook.
Dr. Boamah refuted the allegations, asserting that the Presidential aircraft was already in poor condition when the previous government left office.
In a social media post, he stated, “The Akufo-Addo administration allowed the Presidential jet to deteriorate. The fuel tank is corroded, and the aircraft has been sent abroad for repairs. It may not be operational again for another three months.”
In a follow-up statement, Mr. Assafuah said he would bring the matter before Parliament when it reconvenes.
He stated that he would seek answers regarding the cost of the Vice President’s chartered flight, the current status of the Presidential jet, and the government’s rationale for placing blame on a former president.
