NIA Urges Public To Report Cases of Death of Relatives To Deactivate Their Cards
The Western Regional Division of the National Identification Authority, NIA has called on the public to report cases of the death of their family members for the deactivation of their cards.
The Regional Director of NIA Benjamin Sackey Enoch during the media engagement, said this action does not mean providing details of deceased individuals to be deleted from their system.
Mr. Sackey further revealed that there are still over 68,000 cards that have not been received by their rightful owners since April 5 when the issuance of cards began at the district offices.
He also emphasized the premium service which is being interrupted by the public, adding that new registration and updates come at a fee, however replacement of records at the district offices also comes at a fee.
“The only time the offices charge money is when you are replacing or updating your records, and that one the Parliament passed the Fees and Charges Act, so if you want to replace or update your card, you are to pay GH¢34. 50pesewas.
But if you want the premium you go to the premium office and pay a fee of GH¢110.00. So it’s a choice you have to make as an applicant,” He said.
Mr. Sackey warned citizens against acts of criminality such as aiding noncitizens to register as Ghanaians.
He entreated all who are far from the district they registered in to make arrangements for their cards to be transferred to them.
