Skills Development Training Launched Under Twin-Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project

About 350 persons would receive training in crop production, animal husbandry, aquaculture, bio-digester technology, eco-friendly oven production and plastic waste recycling.

The training will focus on two key areas, Urban Agriculture techniques and green and climate-smart production technologies.

Speaking at the launch of the Twin-Cities in Sustainable Partnership Project, TCSPP Skills development training in Sekondi, the Mayor of STMA, Abdul Mumin Issah mentioned that, the intent is to equip people with employable skills to contribute to the socio-economic development of the Metropolis and Ghana as a whole.

Mr. Mumin Isaah said the training is part of measures to curb unemployment in the country which forces the youth to flee to other countries in search of greener pastures.

“The TCSPP skills training is aimed at providing beneficiaries with alternative livelihoods to increase income and employment opportunities. The programme is intended to train 350 vulnerable groups, including unemployed women and youth, returnees and potential future migrants. They will be taught professional skills in crop production, animal husbandry, aquaculture, biodigester technology, eco-friendly oven production and plastic waste recycling.

The training will focus on two key areas, namely; Urban Agriculture techniques and Green and Climate-Smart Production Technologies,” He said.

According to him, the training would equip the youth and small-holder vegetable farmers with the right skills to take advantage of opportunities in the agriculture value chain, from production to consumption.

The Green and Climate-smart Production Technologies, on the other hand, would focus on recycling low-value plastic waste into marketable products, bio-digester technology and the production of eco-friendly ovens to deal with the issues of environmental pollution.

The Mayor, whilst advising the trainees urged them to embrace and actively participate, and make good use of the opportunity for the training which is likely to become a career for them to contribute positively to national development.

He disclosed that there will be support for them in the form of seedlings, small farming implements, equipment, tools and materials to set up.

” The TCSPP training in urban agriculture techniques is therefore a way to respond to the increasing demand for healthy vegetables due to the flourishing hospitality industry across the country and the general public’s consciousness to consume wholesome vegetables and other agricultural products.

There is therefore no doubt that numerous opportunities await beneficiaries of this programme after their training.

Some beneficiaries who have undergone the same training had the opportunity of sharing their experiences with the trainees.

The training forms part of activities to mark the 2023 Europe Month celebration in Ghana with the theme,” Celebrating Youth and Skills”.
