The Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG says it will no longer accept cash for payment of services.
According to the Western Regional Communications Officer of the ECG, Benjamin Quarcoo says, the rationale for implementing the cashless system is to afford customers the convenience of transacting business with the Company.
Launched just last week, the new cashless system aims to enhance customer convenience and bolster ECG’s revenue by streamlining the process of prepaid credit purchases.
He reckoned that the system is currently running at the various offices and all payments are made on the digital platform.
“It most importantly has to do with customer convenience. Our customers have been complaining to us about the use of current trends in technology, so we took that into consideration especially when Covid-19 was at its peak.
When you start with things like these, you have to make sure that it’s working well, so we allowed it to work alongside our manual for transacting with our customers, until in May, we were convinced that it was okay for us to roll it out.
Basically, out of the concerns and suggestions raised by our customers with regard to making things more convenient for them. All payments are made via our digital platform, we are not taking cash in any of our offices or customer service centre,” He mentioned.
Mr Quarcoo, on the other, reiterated that ECG vendors would accept cash at the vending points
