GES gives permission to 18 years old students to participate in the ongoing voter registration
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has given permission for students in the second year who are 18 years and above to leave campus and participate in the ongoing voter registration conducted by the Electoral Commission (EC).
These eligible students have been granted a three-day leave, from Friday, September 22 to Sunday, September 24, 2023. The GES has cited the constitutional requirement for all Ghanaian citizens to exercise their right to vote as the reason for this decision.
The GES has instructed Regional Directors of Education to relay this information to all Principals of Second Cycle Institutions under their jurisdiction.
The Limited Voters’ Registration Exercise, which began on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at all 268 District offices of the Electoral Commission nationwide, allows eligible Ghanaians who have turned 18 and above since the last registration in 2020, as well as those who were already 18 but couldn’t register during the 2020 exercise for various reasons, to enroll on the voter register.
As of September 18, the Electoral Commission reported that a total of 182,831 voters had been registered during the first six days of the limited voter registration exercise conducted nationwide.
