Abdul Razak Alhassan, Public Relations Officer, Small-Scale Miners Association says, system failures account for the smuggling of gold from Ghana into other countries.
According to him, Ghana recorded the highest gold export in 2018 even though the government placed a ban on both licensed and unlicensed small-scale miners.
In an interview on Spice 91.9 with Kwame Offie, he observes that the presence of Chinese nationals in galamsey has contributed to the woes of small-scale mining.
Abdul Razak opined that the Precious Mineral Marketing Company, PMMC is to blame for not living up to its mandate in regulating the unlawful export of gold.
Abdul Razak again stated that the interference of politicians in the small-scale mining industry has brought the industry to its knees.
He further added that Professor Frimpong Boateng has failed the nation as he could not supervise the illegalities in the mining sector and finds it needless to publish the galamsey report when he is now out of office.
