The airspace over Niger has been declared open once again for commercial and civil aviation.
On August 6, the military junta in Niamey shut down air travel over the country, citing “a threat of military invasion” from nearby countries.
Following the coup on July 26 that ousted President Mohammed Bazoum, this closure of the airspace came after the leaders of the regional bloc Ecowas threatened to use force.
The decision to open the airspace does not, however, apply to military flights or other special flights that require “authorization from the competent authorities,” according to Niger.
However, due to the economic sanctions imposed by Ecowas, flights to the country may still be limited by air travel.
