SSNIT Entreats Both Formal And Informal Workers To Get Salary Insurance

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is urging people in the working society to get involved in salary insurance.

Beach FM, as part of educating the public on paying insurance policies, has dedicated April as an insurance month to drum home the importance of acquiring insurance.

In an interview with Yaw Mawutor Fianu on the Mid Morning Lounge Show, Madam Emefa Agonyo, the SSNIT Public Relations Office for Takoradi Area gave an insight into salary insurance.

According to her, everyone has a right to Social Security as there have been misconceptions that SSNIT is only for formal workers.

She acclaimed that salary insurance provides individuals with a life insurance policy where benefits will be paid out to recipients during the retirement period.

Madam Agonyo further acknowledges that in the pensions law, employers need to ensure that the right thing is done by paying employees’ monthly contributions to SSNIT

Circling the misconception of SSNIT where people presume that SSNIT does not follow through with payment, Madam Agonyo stated that it is because people do not understand the insurance process

According to her, pension is a human right and people owe it as a responsibility to themselves to get secured salary insurance irrespective of whether they are formal or informal sector workers.
