It’s a huge honour to coach in my country – Chris Hughton

Chris Hughton

Black Stars coach Chris Hughton has shown appreciation for being appointed to manage the Black Stars at the expense of many applicants.

The former Brighton and Hove Albion manager was appointed to take over from Otto Addo following the team’s World Cup exit in Qatar last year after a number of applications had trouped in according to the Ghana Football Association.

“If you are a player that goes into coaching and management what you want to do is to be able to manage at the highest level. The highest levels are managing in your own country and at the international level,” he told Supersport

“This particular time the country of my father’s birth having spent time here and having been involved is a huge honour for me.”

Hughton has enjoyed an unbeaten start with a win and a draw against Angola in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Ghana now lead Group E in the qualifiers with eight points and are a win away from getting into the tournament which will be held in Ivory Coast next year.
